Joint Exhibition held between Berkeley Square Gallery (23A Bruton Street) and Scolar Fine Art This is the third in our series of annual joint exhibitions of 20th Century British Art. Each year we learn from and build on the successes of the previous and once again this exhibition contains an eclectic and interesting group of paintings, sculpture and works on paper.
As always, many of the key figures of the period are well represented - Ben Nicholson, Peter Lanyon, C. R. W. Nevinson, Victor Pasmore, John Tunnard, Keith Vaughan and Edward Wadsworth are all included. Of special note we have a group of pictures by the surprisingly little known British Surrealists, including works by John Banting, John Selby-Bigge, Sam Haile and Desmond Morris. Also exhibited are two exceptional early works by Patrick Heron - a representational painting of 1952 and an abstract oil of 1959; both works have been in private collections since they were painted, the latter has never been exhibited.
We continue to include Irish pictures; a fine Paul Henry landscape and an important work on paper of Francis Bacon by Louis Le Brocquy - naturally, we very much hope to include more Irish pictures in the coming years.
We mark the passing of Lynn Chadwick with a monumental Sitting Couple, 1989-90 that will be installed in Berkeley Square itself, in a location directly opposite Bruton Street and Bruton Place and minute's walk from either gallery.
A superb 'family group' drawing from the 1944 sketchbook complements two early reclining figures by Henry Moore. Work by Eduardo Paolozzi and two bronzes by Barbara Hepworth complete the sculpture section.
A fully illustrated colour catalogue has been produced to accompany the exhibition, which is available, with a price list, from both galleries. If you would like more information about any of the artists or works included do contact us. As with previous years the exhibition will be shown in both galleries and all the work is for sale. And remember, the search for rare and interesting work for next year’s catalogue and exhibition has already started!
We look forward to welcoming you to both galleries.
