Robert Maclaurin is one of Osborne Samuel's main contemporary painters. He had his first solo exhibition with the gallery in 1990.
A Scottish Artist, he trained in drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art (1979-84). Robert Maclaurin's work is landscape based and at present concentrates on Scottish, Australian and New Zealand subject matters. Works range in size from six inches to eight feet square and are mainly oil paintings. He also makes prints, watercolours and drawings.
The artist is the winner of many awards and Scholarships including a Turkish Government Scholarship (1984-5), Scottish Arts Council Bursary (1988), British Council Travel Award (1988), Durham Cathedral Artist in Residence (1993-4) and a Sir Robert Menzies Fellowship to Australia (1994-6)
Selected Public Collections include: the British Contemporary Art Society, Flemings Holdings Collection, the former Scottish Arts Council Collection and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
In 1998, Robert Maclaurin was First prize winner in the Noble Grossart Scottish Painting Prize. In 1999 he had a major solo exhibition in the Edinburgh International Festival at the Talbot Rice Art Gallery. A huge critical and commercial success, the exhibition then came to BSG in London.
