Statement
My ideas and concerns are developing and evolving rapidly. At present I am making sculpture that requires interaction with the viewer’s imagination. In the same way the ruined façade of a once magnificent castle or a semi-exposed fossil provides a starting point but leaves the viewer’s imagination to complete the image, one through the omission of sections and the latter, concealment in a rock.

I am fascinated by the body language we all use: how it can, used on an abstract level, communicate general ideas or express emotion. In moving from realistic representation to abstract language a sculptor can selectively minimise forms or exaggerate proportions in order to make the viewer look at the figure in a different way.

I admire the honesty and truth found in paintings by Lucian Freud and his ability to bring a contemporary freshness to realism. I am inspired by Rodin’s sculpture, the classical heritage he absorbed and its role as a form of contemporary artistic expression.

I am interested in the attainment of a recognisable, individual likeness and try to capture in my work the vulnerability of human individuality. I want to make portraiture that penetrates the character of the sitter. As a sculptor I am excited by the prospect of being an eternal student.

I prefer working in bronze. It satisfies a desire to make something more lasting than myself.
